In February 1994, Angel Food Ministries was born with the feeding of 34 families. Today, Angel Food feeds 40,000-50,000 families in 14 states each month. Angel Food is a non-profit corporation, which crosses the boundaries of denomination and race. In the past two years, over 100,000 salvation tracts have been distributed in the food boxes.
In December of 1997, a friend introduced Pastors John and Becky Greene of Easley, South Carolina to Angel Food. In January 1998, their church began ordering the food boxes. As the orders for their own church grew, Pastors John and Becky began sharing the vision with other local churches. As the number of host sites they signed up with the program rapidly expanded, they decided to set up as a regional "hub" and have the food hauled in to a local warehouse for distribution. John and Becky have made Angel Food their full time ministry now and during the year of 2000, they distributed almost 30,000 boxes of food to 60 local host sites.
For $30, you or a friend or family member can receive a box of food with an average retail value of $45-$50. The box contains both fresh and frozen meat, fruits and vegetables and will help feed a family of four for about a week. Angel Food is approved for the Food Stamp Program. There is no limit to the number of boxes you can purchase. There are no applications or qualifications to participate. Since we are non-profit, you can purchase a box for a person in need and deduct the charge as a charitable contribution.
A host site church takes orders and turns them in to Angel Food. On distribution day, the church picks up the food in bulk at the warehouse. In some cases the food can be delivered to the host site. Angel Food Ministries donates $1 per box sold to the host site. If a church comes to pick their food up at our warehouse, we will help with transportation.
Angelfood, SC has been consolidating our operation over the past few months. As a result we have closed our PO Box and are using our street address for all mail. The new address is: Angelfood SC, 307 Pheasant Ridge Dr, Taylors, SC 29687. Due to the loss of our part-time staffer, Abby, our office hours have changed. There will no longer be anyone in the office in the afternooon. This is for the South Carolina operation only. The home office hours remain the same.
In South Carolina we have finally gotten into the Myrtle Beach area. Hearts of Compassion Ministries in Conway came on board in October. Our Charleston presence has expanded with the addition of North Charleston Church of God. Our first site in Charleston was LowCountry Angelfood. The Richalnd Cadet Squadron of the Civil Air PAtrol has become our host site in Columbia SC. This opens up three new areas of the state to our program.
In North Carolina we have Christ Our Shepherd Ministries in Matthews. This gives us a site just to the east of Charlotte. Check our host site lists for information on these sites.
